Nigeria Launches Women Empowerment Mobile App Competition

WWThe Ministry of Communication Technology invites software developers and entrepreneurs to participate in a 3 week Women Empowerment Mobile App Competition that focuses on how to leverage mobile and web application to increase women engagement, promote career and business development, drive counselling, mentorship and networking amongst women. techwoman16x9


  1. All applications must be submitted via the following URL: ONLY applications submitted via this link will be assessed.
  2. Applicants are requested to submit a detailed, illustrated description of their application and encouraged to include a link to a demonstration of their application.
  3. Please note that physical/paper copies or CDs of applications *will not* be assessed.
  4. The Federal Ministry of Communication Technology (FMCT) and its partners reserve the right to select or reject any application. Reasons for rejection will be communicated to applicants upon receipt of written request.
  5. This competition is open to technology entrepreneurs and companies that are domiciled in Nigeria only. Where a team of developers are participating to submit an application, no less than half of the team must be domiciled in Nigeria.
  6. Deadline for the submission of applications is: 11:59pm on Sunday, July 20


  1. The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development (FMWASD); FMCT; iDEA; Co-Creation; Venia; and other selected hubs will participate in the assessment of applications submitted via the link specified above. The outcome of this assessment will be a shortlist of applicants. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited to the next stage of assessment (i.e. presentation panel)
  2. A judging panel made up of technical and subject-matter experts will be constituted to assess presentations by shortlisted applicants. This panel will select the winner of the competition and two runner-up.www


  1. Awards to the winner and runner-up of this competition will be distributed as follows:
    1. Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00) for the best solution (i.e. winner of the competition)
    2. Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300,000.00) to the first runner-up
    3. Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000.00) to the second runner-up


  1. The winner of the competition will be offered a contract to complete the development of their application based on additional requirements that will be provided by FMWASD and FMCT. Contract terms will be negotiated with the winner and in the event that an agreement is not reached with the winner either of the two runner-up can be offered the contract
  2. The value of the contract will exclude the hosting and other infrastructure cost that may be required for full operationalization of the application. FMCT shall bear the cost for the hosting and other infrastructure
  3. A Service Contract Agreement, Service Level Agreement and Source Code Escrow Agreement shall be signed between FMCT or its agency and the winner to guarantee the operations of the app year-in, year-out.
  4. The year-in, year-out maintenance and support of the application shall be the sole responsibilities of the contracted entity
