Applications open for Affordable Nutrition Forum with $15,000 prize

Village Capital and The Hershey Company are seeking the next generation of entrepreneurs tackling nutrition challenges in Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria. We are excited to invite ventures to apply to participate in the Village Capital Affordable Nutrition Forum taking place in Accra, Ghana, on April 21, 2017. We are focused on ventures addressing inefficiences in supply chain, manufacturing, logistics and distribution, which are making it difficult for healthy food products to reach the right people at the right price.

The Forum is an opportunity for entrepreneurs working on increasing access to, and affordability of, nutritious food products locally in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Nigeria, to win $15,000.

Up to 10 finalists will receive all expenses paid flights and accommodation to Accra, Ghana, and a day of business development/investment readiness training with industry experts and investors.

Applications are now open.

West African economies like Ghana, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire are growing rapidly, yet nutrition for children still lags behind. In Ghana, UNICEF estimates that 57% of children under 5 are anemic, 23% are stunted, and 30,000 children suffer from Severe Acute Malnutrition annually. This doesn’t just affect children physically – the next generation of entrepreneurs and leaders who are in school now but don’t have the right nutrition have a hard time focusing, contributing to poor results in the classroom. Parents want to invest in their children’s future by making them as ready to learn and grow as possible, but the nutrient-rich foods that fuel that brain power are often inaccessible or unaffordable.

Up to 10 enterprises will be chosen to attend Village Capital’s Affordable Nutrition Forum on 21 April 2017 in Accra, Ghana, including:
All expenses paid flights and accommodation in Accra, Ghana for the duration of the forum, and

Participation in a day of business development/investment readiness training with industry experts and investors, and

The potential to win $15,000 prize money to grow and build a venture.
